Yin and Restorative Yoga - with Janya Wongsopa
Tuesdays, 4:30-5:45pm


This class offers a nurturing blend of long-held passive poses with varying degrees of intensity and relaxation. Yoga props, such as blankets and blocks, are used to support the body through the poses.  Holding poses for long periods allows our body to go beyond just muscle stretching to reach the fascia (muscle lining) and connective tissue. Each posture brings an opportunity to observe the body, disengage the mind, and ultimately tune into the silence of meditation. Throughout her class, Janya gives hands-on assistance to enhance your experience of spaciousness and relaxation.

Restorative yoga has subtle effects on the body’s chemical balance and promotes a healthy function of the nervous system that can help alleviate chronic conditions, such as migraine headaches, insomnia, stress, and anxiety. This quiet practice sharpens intuition, strengthens our resolve, and cultivates compassion for us and for others.

About the instructor: Janya completed her teacher’s training program from the Avalon Art and Yoga Center in Palo Alto, and has been teaching yoga in the SF bay area since 2005. She has studied Yin and Restorative yoga with top teachers such as Sarah Power and Judith Lasater, as well as classical yogic meditation at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm. Her teaching is an eclectic blend of her love for Vinyasa, yoga therapy and meditation and a tribute to her on going study with several gifted teachers. In addition to teaching yoga, Janya is also a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist who holds an Ayurvedic consultation practice.
