Yin Yoga - with Janya Wongsopa
Wednesdays, 1:45-3:00pm
One famous quote reads “Blessed are the flexible for they shall not be bent out of shape.” Yin yoga promotes agility in the body by employing long held passive poses in a unique way. Holding poses for long periods allows the stretch to go beyond stretching just muscle, getting into the fascia (muscle lining) and connective tissue. Each posture is an opportunity to observe the body, disengage the mind and ultimately tune into the silence of meditation. This quiet practice sharpens intuition, strengthens our resolve, and cultivates compassion for ourselves as well as for others.
About the instructor: Janya taught her first yoga class in 2005 at Intel Corporation without a formal training. After the class she knew that teaching yoga was part of her dharma. Since then, she had completed her teacher's training program and received her certification from the Avalon Art and Yoga Center in Palo Alto, and is now teaching yoga regularly in studios in the SF bay area.
Janya also received a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist degree from California College of Ayurveda and American Institute of Vedic Studies in 2007. In addition to teaching yoga she holds Ayurvedic consultation practice and is a proprietor of “Ayurveda Ritual”, her Ayurvedic herbal remedies. She has studied Yin and Restorative yoga with top teachers such as Sarah Power and Judith Lasater as well as classical yogic meditation at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm. Her teaching is an eclectic blend of her love for Vinyasa, yoga therapy and meditation and a tribute to her on going study with several gifted teachers.
