Clive began practicing yoga over 8 years ago and became immediately hooked. He has studied both Iyenga and Vinyasa Yoga extensively. He is a product of Avalon's teacher training program and teaches at several local studios. Clive continues to study under some of the Bay Area's leading teachers. His classes are best described as Vinyasa style with an Iyengar influence. Clive's British accent and sense of humor makes his teaching both unique and fun.
Diane views yoga as a moving meditation that incorporates awareness, concentration and intention. She is interested in how the pratice of yoga not only benefits the physical body by building strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. Diane is particularly focused on how the various asanas and pranayama technqiues can help us calm the mind and cultivate traits of discipline, compassion, lovingkindness, self-respect, curiosity, patience, persistence and risk taking. In short, the regular practice of yoga can change our basic character and how we live off the mat.
Elena began her yogic path under the guidance of her guru, Ben Thomas, with whom she studied asanas, pranayama, chanting, philosophy, and meditation. After a year of daily practice, she knew she would dedicate her life to yoga. Elena completed the Avalon Teacher Training Program under the mentorship of John Berg. Elena also completed 100 hours of Anusara Immersion with Kenny Graham, who introduced her to the Tantric philosophy of yoga. Through this study, Elena learned to keep her heart open and to make every class a celebration of the body, mind, and Self.
Hillary began her yoga practice in 1997, starting with Iyengar then later Vinyasa. Yoga helped her develop body and breath awareness that worked wonders during two pregnancies and childbirths. Hillary also has embraced the spiritual side of yoga and continues to explore meditation and yogic philosophy. Hillary’s classes combine breath awareness and physical postures in an effort to open the body, mind and spirit to all that is possible. She aims to ensure that every student—regardless of age, fitness level or experience—finds something magical in the practice.
