New Class: Qigong with Ben Dineen
Sundays, 6:15-7:30pm
Qigong is an ancient, evolving, and wholistic system of health and wellness developed in China thousands of years ago. “Qi” is the Chinese character for “life-energy”. “Gong” means “work” or “benefits acquired through perseverance and consistent practice”. Therefore, qigong means working with the life-energy, learning how to control the flow and distribution of qi, and in doing so, learning to improve the health and harmony of body, mind, and spirit. The practice of qigong includes various different postures, movements, breathing exercises, self-massage, visualizations, and meditation.
About the instructor:
Ben was introduced to the art and science of yoga in 1996 by Senior Iyengar Instructor Ben Thomas, whom Ben considers his primary yogic mentor and inspiration. Ben is deeply grateful and appreciative for all that Ben Thomas has so generously and lovingly shared with him over the years.
In addition to practicing yoga, Ben has maintained a regular practice of taijiquan and qigong since 1999. In 2003 he began studying qigong and Chen style taijiquan with his primary sifu, Master Wong Wai Yi (Tony Wong). Ben is deeply appreciative for being under the expert guidance of Master Wong, and for his true patience and generosity in his sharing with him the ancient arts of taiji and qigong.
Although Ben has only mentioned his two primary teachers here, there are many others who have contributed to Ben's learning and development over the years, and to them, Ben offers his sincere thanks and gratitude.
