New Monthly Pranayama and Meditation Class
with John Berg on the last Friday of every month, 6:00-7:15pm. The next class is on June 26th.
Ever since the earliest forms of classical Yoga, from the Vedas and Upanishads, the main practice of the Yogic quest was Self-knowledge and union. The observation of the breath, the quieting of the mind, and the merging with an infinite source of creation and inspiration is how Yoga began. It wasn't until much later that the practice of Asana developed; indeed, the primary reason for Asana practice was to develop the body to be relaxed, supple and sensitive so that physical awareness could melt away, providing greater comfort to sit and watch the Self for longer periods of time.
This is a class that explores the practice of meditation, coupled with various Pranayama techniques and a short talk about the history, philosophy and practice. This is not an Asana class.
All levels are welcome. No previous mediation, pranayama, or yoga experience required.
